get involved: schools

Our education programmes with primary and secondary schools focus on driving positive behavioural change amongst Hong Kong’s youth. We aim to not just help students learn about the environmental impact of their clothing choices, but also to encourage changes in habits and get students excited about making a life-long commitment to sustainability by guiding them to reflect on the impact they can make for people, the community and the environment as consumers and future leaders. Since 2018 we have:

ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING RESOURCES

GET REDRESSED MONTH

Organised by Redress, this annual, month-long campaign gathers 100+ corporates, clubs, organisations, schools, and the general public to run the city’s largest clothing drive. Through a series of educational activities, the campaign teaches Hong Kongers sustainable consumption habits in order to extend the life of our clothes to reduce waste. Sign up for the next Get Redressed Month happening May 2024!

EDUCATIONAL TALKS

Redress has an experienced team of facilitators who can run fun, interactive presentations and talks online and offline for primary and secondary students. Teaching topics can include but are not limited to fast fashion, clothing pollution, clothing waste, circularity and related new innovation opportunities. Sessions can be 30 or 60 minutes long. Both English and Cantonese are available upon request.

STORYTIME (FOR PRIMARY STUDENTS)

As children grow up, parents and teachers will inevitably experience children growing out of their clothes, but how can children sustainably dispose of these clothes? Through the fun and lively story of ‘Yoyo and the World’s Coolest T-shirt’ and a practical upcycling activity, Redress facilitators can help primary students Grades 1-6 learn about sustainable and circular solutions to give these clothes a second life.

UPCYCLING WORKSHOP (FOR SECONDARY STUDENTS)

Each year, around 2 billion pairs of jeans are produced globally. This workshop uses ‘Our Jeans and the Planet’ as a base, and through a fun and original board game, teaches secondary students Forms 1-6 the jeans production process, and explains how this wardrobe staple impacts the environment and people. In the workshop, students will also learn to upcycle used denim, exploring all the possibilities of repurposing clothing.

REDRESS' ONLINE LEARNING TOOLKIT FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS

In consultation with teachers and curricular advisors, Redress has developed a free, bilingual online education toolkit that focuses on fashion’s environmental impact, along with ideas for positive actions to inspire students. The toolkit is full of learning modules and interactive resources. Please visit Circular Fashion Education Toolkit to learn more about it.
