REDRESS ON THE RUNWAY

ABOUT

Redress on the Runway turned heads and attitudes towards fashion that reduces textile waste at a fashion show gala packed with 400 guests at the W Hong Kong on 20 May 2011. Twenty-one designers representing 13 countries put on a unanimously stylish and sustainable front to demonstrate innovative sustainable design techniques, such as up-cycling, reconstruction, zero-waste and recycling.

The first part of the fashion show revealed mainstream sustainable fashion designers and brands who are retailing textile waste-reducing ready-to-wear garments. The second part of the fashion show turned the concept of haute couture ‘inside out’ by featuring stunning couture gowns that were made by recycling various waste materials, including fabric swatches, damaged secondhand clothes and up-cycled factory fabric overruns.

Following the runway show and when guests were suitably invigorated by the positive power of fashion, we auctioned several stunning jewelry pieces donated by the luxury sustainable jewelry brand John Hardy.

This show was art directed by Holly Suan Gray.
