Redress, the leading environmental NGO working to reduce fashion waste, commissioned a study “Clothing Consumption, Usage and Disposal Habits in Hong Kong” to reveal that two in five Hong Kongers only hold onto clothing for one year or less and nearly a third discard unwanted clothing items in the rubbish, contributing to the approximately 196 tonnes of clothing that enters Hong Kong's landfills every day.*

Leading environmental NGO Redress opened the Redress Design Award 2020, the 10th cycle of the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition alongside its new Circular Fashion Design Pathway Course, with lead sponsorship from Hong Kong government agency, Create Hong Kong. These milestones come as Redress continues to fight fashion’s alarming - and worsening - waste rates by educating fashion designers globally about waste-reducing circular design techniques. Hong Kong - Environmental NGO Redress completed their biggest ‘Get Redressed Month’ to date which saw public awareness adverts across the MTR, the creation of a brand new school resources pack and online resource hub, and 118 companies, clubs and schools hosting a total of 187 collection points for unwanted clothing across Hong Kong. The campaign has turned October into the official month to take action against textile waste and aims to make clothes recycling accessible and transparent, whilst tackling the issue of over-consumption through public engagement activities.
