DONATE YOUR CLOTHES
Creating a circular system for unwanted clothes
We want to make clothes recycling transparent and easy, and are working to expand our clothing collection points across Hong Kong, together with our take back partners below.
Extending the life of clothing by just 9 months can reduce carbon, waste and water footprints by 20-30% each, not to mention maximising precious resources for the benefit of people in need right here in Hong Kong.
In Hong Kong alone the textile equivalent of 16,000 garments ends up in our overflowing landfills every hour – and this has doubled since 2007. Incredibly around 95% of textiles that are thrown away each year can be reused, repaired or recycled.
So what do we do with your clothes?
To date we have collected over 41 tonnes of clothing in Hong Kong. Every single item is carefully assessed to identify the best way to extend its life and minimise environmental impact:
Top quality clothes are sold at Redress’ educational pop up shops twice a year to raise critical funds to support our work.
The bulk of the clothes we receive are delivered directly to 20+ local charities – all pre-sorted according to their exact beneficiary requirements.
Ripped, stained and poor quality clothes are kept by Redress for a new recycling project that will turn old clothes into new yarns!
DONATE ALL YEAR ROUND
Now collecting with partners in 19 locations across Hong Kong:
JOIN US IN OCTOBER 2019! Our annual clothing drive will run as part of #GetRedressed month - a whole month of action against textile waste right across Hong Kong and beyond!
Partnering with companies, clubs and schools throughout the city we’re aiming to collect over 7 tonnes of unwanted clothing - all of which will be meticulously sorted by teams of volunteers for re-distribution to local charity partners. Our drive aims to raise awareness amongst the public about issues around textile waste and promote the benefits of recycling, whilst ensuring valuable resources remain in Hong Kong to support local communities. Beneficiaries include refugees, the homeless, women at risk, babies, children, the elderly and for the first time, even animals in need!
